CricketIreland: Toronto must have been a huge disappointment - where did we go wrong?
I think we went over there with the wrong side in the first place. Our bowling was poor but our batting should have been strong enough to make up for that and it wasn't. I also think we bottled it in a couple of games as well. Our fielding also left a lot to be desired. Basically, my biggest cricketing disappointment ever!

What do you think is most wrong with Irish cricket, and what can be done?
I think our best players should play as little as possible in Ireland - unless we get our wickets and structure sorted out, which seems unlikely in the near future. There are so many other things - I wouldn't know where to start - but I do think the international side is the most important thing and whether we have a better interprovincial series or a national league will make little difference to the standard of the Irish side.
I would also fast track kids like Eoin Morgan and William Porterfield and get them straight into the Irish set up.

Do you see yourself playing for Ireland again?
Yes, definitely!

If the Irish part of your career is "on hold", what is the best memory you take from your time in the side?
There haven't been too many great memories with the Irish side. I've made some great mates within the side. My best cricketing memory would probably be the match against the Aussies in Eglinton.

Have you made any firm decision, or given any firm commitment to either Middlesex or the ICU?
I will be playing for Middlesex in anything that has to do with county cricket cos they pay my wages of course. I would like to think that I will be involved with Ireland in World Cup qualifiers and the World Cups to come. That's not set in stone but is about 90% positive.

Where do you expect yourself to be in ten years time?
Depending on how the next two years at Middlesex go, hopefully making millions playing county cricket and playing in a World Cup final for Ireland at Clontarf (which by then will be a 50,000 seater stadium)!

If the answer above isn't `Merrion Twos', would you consider your career to be a failure if you were back in Ireland?
No, I've scored a 100 at Lord's and taken a first-class wicket. Nobody can take either of those achievements away from me and if I was to finish tomorrow, I would be proud of them.

The Merrion club seems an excellent place to develop young talent, what or who do you consider to have been the best thing that club did for you?
Playing cricket at Merrion since I was a young'un made me love the game. The people there are brilliant and friendly (despite what most of Leinster cricket seems to think of it). I didn't really get a lot of coaching there. I just played a whole lot of cricket - that's the only thing I can think of.

Can you give us some sense of what it was like growing up in Joyce Towers; in what must have been an extraordinary cricket-obsessed household.
Summer was for cricket and if you wanted to do anything else, you did it during the winter. We like all sports though. I would say that it is more of a sport-obsessed household rather than a cricket-obsessed one. I love the fact that I've got so many brothers and sisters. Always someone to bowl at you in the back yard!

Did you all ever get up to anything else?! Any normal holidays?
As Dom said in his PlayerLines, "Joyces don't go on holidays. they're too busy playing cricket!" I have visited some lovely places playing cricket though. as I said before though, it's not just cricket, it's all sports. rugby, soccer, chess etc.

Who scored the most in the back yard?
I was never any good in the back yard. Gus was probably the best mainly cos he was the fattest and it was harder to get the tennis ball by him in the small back yard.

Did you go and see your sisters play for Ireland?
I've never seen them bat but I've seen them field. I always seem to be playing myself when they have a match. I know they're bloody good though cos they got the best coaching in the world!

Will Dom get another chance at Middlesex?
If he wants it, he'll get another chance. I'm not sure how interested he is though. you'd have to ask him that. But Middlesex have been asking me about him though.
