Stan McCready, a notable player in Leinster cricket and international umpire, died in Dublin on Wednesday 15 May after a long illness.

He played 385 senior games for YMCA, taking 790 wickets at 16.98 in a career that spanned four decades from 1957-84. He played several seasons for South Leinster in the Guinness Cup - taking 50 wickets - and was a member of the first team from the province to win the title.

Stan stood in the Ireland against Australia A game in 1998 and in two triple crown games when that tournament was last held here in 1999.

He is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Karen and Elaine and son Stuart, himself a talented interprovincial player, and grandchildren Adam and Laura.

His funeral will take place on Friday 17 May at Rathfarnham Parish Church at 11am.
