The cup quarter-finals threw up some interesting results and performances, with CYM and YMCA overturning the odds to vanquish Clontarf and Pembroke. Old hands Lewis and Dunlop's undoubted taste for the cup was rekindled as they beat Pembroke's inadequate total of 206. At Terenure, Clontarf sailed to 141 for none before falling away to 241 for 6 when a total in excess looked certain. The in-form Michael Lax (another who will attain Irishness in the next 12 months) rattled up an unbeaten 122 as he guided the tail home to a two-wicket win.

North County's big bird, Joe Murphy, returned the incredible figures of 5-5-0-5 as Old Belvedere tumbled to 39 all out in reply to North County's 225. Oddly, the North County stumps were broken ten times during their innings; eight were bowled and two run-out. Heavy rain interrupted the Hills v Merrion on Saturday, but the game was completed on Tuesday and Wednesday with an unbeaten partnership between Shaun Flegler (93*) and Brad Spanner (45*) seeing the southsiders home.

Congratulations to Eamon Ryan of the Green Party, the only TD in the new D‡il who has taken senior wickets in Leinster. Ryan bowled his left arm medium for Merrion some years back before his new career saw him elected on the eighth count with more than 5,200 votes.

Congrats also to Johnny Harte, re-elected Trinity captain for 2003.
