Young Eager to Learn From His Cricketing Hero Brett Lee - Irelands Pace Bowler Relishing World Cup Challenge

Craig Young was a little star struck today as one of his Cricketing Hero's took charge of the Irish Bowling Unit.

Brett Lee worked with Young on both the mental and physical side of his game. Young seemed to get great insights into his game and looked forward to applying his new knowledge to his ever improving game.

Young is looking forward to the challenges that playing in a World Cup brings, relishing the chance to bowl at destructive big hitters like Chris Gayle.

Barry Chambers: Craig a great opportunity for you this morning, working with Brett Lee. How did it go?

Craig Young: It went fantastic. I think it's definitely a bit of a dream come true, you know, it's a bit cheesy to say, but it absolutely is. Just within the space of two or three balls, there was a massive difference.

As I say, I've just got to back now and write everything down that I can remember, and take from the session, and make sure it says with me.

Barry Chambers: He was just given you a few tips wasn't he, he's not looking to remodel your action, just is it more the mental side of things, or are there technical issues in there as well?

Craig Young: There's definitely a bit of both. There's definitely a bit of a mental issue. It's a fact that it's Brett Lee, he's going to fire you up. And then the technical bits, he understands that we're on the verge of a major competition, he doesn't want to come in and melt our brains.

So anything he did change was only small. And if it didn't work you're more than entitled to go back to what worked before. But thankfully for me everything he did with me worked. And I definitely felt the benefit of it.

Barry Chambers: It's been a bit of an amazing turnaround for you personally. I mean you had a couple of bad years, injury wise, you went back to the North West, but it's really come good for you in a short space of time?

Craig Young: Yes, I mean it's, I've just got my head down and worked hard, ever since I came home. I tend not to look back too much. There'll be plenty of time for that later on in life. But  as soon as I came back and got that chance, `Simmo' game me that chance in the Four Day against Scotland, that was where I got my first taste of it, and from then on it's just been all I wanted to do since.

Barry Chambers: And in a week's time you'll be with a new ball, facing Chris Gayle. Have you been dreaming about that, or what's going through your head?

Craig Young: If that comes to fruition that's fantastic, you know. It's obviously what you want to do. You're at a World Tournament, you're going to come up against these guys. And it would be nice, you know, Chris Gayle, a lot of people would kill for the chance to probably play with him rather than actually bowl against him. But this is what World Cups are all about.

Barry Chambers: And there's a good North West representation on the side. I mean it's a bit of a family here isn't it, Irish Cricket?

Craig Young: It definitely is. Yes there's a lot of us North Westers floating around now. And that's been the case since I've come back. So I don't know what it was like before. But it's nice to have the North Westers around.

And I think it's good for Ireland as well, that the team is spread out through the country, you know, it's not one Union dominating anymore. So yes I think it's only good for Irish Cricket.
