What a day, another great win for Ireland in a World Cup but this one was slightly different. It was our best win by far.

I'm talking about how we dominated the game for 75 of the 95 overs that were bowled. It was a serious performance from us. Paul Stirling was named man of the match but it was a tough shout between him Niall and Ed.

You can't argue with why Paul was given it but the way Ed held the innings together was outstanding.

Our spin twins, George Dockrell and Andy Mcbrine were faultless also. Andy playing in his first World Cup to bowl 10 overs for just 26 was a special effort! And then there was that run out… Question marks over his fielding, yeah right!

I think he answered any of those with that performance. To be honest, I thought we were exceptional from ball one with our fielding.

We created such an energy and for me, I think that created some nerves within the West Indies team.

Although this was another good win and we did celebrate it as such, this time around we are determined to make it count in terms of progressing further in the tournament. We know we are a good side and we know if we play our best cricket in every match for the next 5 then we have a huge chance.

Any neutral who was watching this game and knows about the ICC's plan to cut the teams down to ten, must be thinking to themselves, are they for real?

The ICC are committed to growing the game globally yet, we are the only sport in which our World Cup, our signature tournament is contracting, in terms of number of participants.

I wholeheartedly disagree with that and I don't see how anyone else wouldn't. It not even just about us beating the West Indies, or beating England, or Pakistan or whoever it might be, it's quite simply the principle.

They may as well take “World” out of the title and just make it the 2019 Cup. It's games like yesterday that for me make World Cup's special, a bit of an underdog story.

Having said that, one of the biggest compliments we received in the last 24 hours was that it wasn't seen, by many, as an upset.

Of course we were the underdog with the bookies but many cricket people around the world were giving us a huge chance. I can tell you know that if you were around our camp we certainly weren't thinking of ourselves as underdogs.

We are here to get the job done and I think that showed yesterday in our celebrations at the end of the match. At the end of the day we are 1 from 1. At the minute that is all it is!

We now move to concentrate on the UAE but not before some deserved downtime. I'm currently writing this on the team bus on our way to the Gold Coast where the coaching staff have given us two days completely away from cricket.

We have worked so hard over the past two weeks so these couple of days will be important in our recovery before we get ready to go for the Emiraties at the Gabba next week.

It was a good draw for us, The gabba will be fast and bouncy, so to be playing a team like the UAE there, a team who in the past have been heavily stacked with spinners, compared to a South Africa with a brilliant pace attack is brilliant.

We'll have our plans for them but for the next couple of days its relaxation with maybe a little golf thrown in! Jennifer, my wife also arrived at our Gold Coast base this morning so that will be great to see her. 6 or 7 weeks is a long time to be on the road away from family!

From my own point of view my form has been disappointing so far on the trip and there is no getting away from that fact.

All I can do is work hard in the nets and when I get my opportunity to make a difference, make sure I take it! I'm doing a lot of good things in training and I feel like I'm hitting the ball well in practice but it's time in the middle that counts.

Hopefully that is not far away.
