Porterfield Says Ireland Expecting and Preparing for a Very Tough World Cup Encounter from UAE at the Gabba Tomorrow

Irish Captain William Porterfield is delighted with the first win Ireland gained over the West Indies.

A win which is now looking even better when you see what the West Indies have done since.

Porterfield has a full squad fit and ready to take the field if chosen. Conditions at the Gabba could be different to those they faced in New Zealand, but Ireland are fit and ready for whatever comes their way in the morning from the often dangerous UAE.

Barry Chambers: William one win under the belt, but it will count for nothing when we meet the UAE, if we don't win that one?

William Porterfield: Yeah it's obviously nice to have that win under our belts. But as you said we've got to start afresh tomorrow and look for another two points, and hopefully be two from two.

Barry Chambers: Team news, all fit and raring to go?

William Porterfield: Yeah we've got a full fifteen to pick from. So it's just nice to have that. And confidence is high within the squad. So we just have to pick the best eleven to go out there tomorrow.

Barry Chambers: And we're here at the Gabba, 42,000 capacity, what do you think the conditions will be?

William Porterfield: Obviously historically there's been a bit more pace and bounce here, as you tend to expect in Australia. And this is one of the grounds obviously that has that. So I expect nothing different. It looks like it's a pretty good pitch from here. So yeah I expect a good cricket wicket.

Barry Chambers: And the young Spinners did well the last time. Will you be hoping for more of the same from them? William Porterfield: Yeah they've done fantastically well to come in, especially Andy in his first World Cup game, in this format. I think it was his first ODI against a Full Member as well, or top 8 team. So to come in and handle himself the way he did was great to see, and we obviously knew he had that in his personality, in his character and make up anyway, that he would handle it like that. But everyone will naturally be a bit nervous in that scenario, but the way he handled himself was great.

Barry Chambers: And what about the UAE, they're perhaps in the same situation we were eight years ago, Bank Clerk, Airline Steward, you know where they're coming from?

William Porterfield: Yes, I think potentially the way they've been playing over the last while, and they'll be very well prepared coming into this competition. So obviously, and they've played in the World Cup before, but it's been a while. And they acquitted themselves very well in the first game against Zimbabwe. So we're expecting a very tough game tomorrow.
