Mooney - Ireland Need to Concentrate in Doing Their Jobs to the Best of Their Ability

As they prepare for their toughest encounter yet in World Cup 2015, Ireland's John Mooney says Ireland need to concentrate on getting their plans right and not worry too much about the opposition.

With their opponents being so top class, Ireland have to concentrate in doing their job to the best of their ability and see what happens if they achieve that.

Barry Chambers: John a huge match against South Africa coming up. How has the preparations gone?

John Mooney: Preparations are spot on. Everybody is just really looking forward to it. It's a simple one, it's one game at a time, and they don't come any bigger than South Africa.

Barry Chambers: Yeah, and of course they've got some huge players there. AB de Villiers I suppose is the one that stands out?

John Mooney: Yeah, all the talk is about AB, after what he did last week, you know it's incredible. But like you said they've got a lot of good players. So I suppose it's just about trying to execute our plans, not get too worried about who they've got. Worry about what we can do, and hopefully do it to the best of our ability.

Barry Chambers: And one thing, maybe, in our favour is the size of this ground, it's huge. I mean I thought the last ground was big, but this one is up another level again?

John Mooney: Yeah it's a nice big ground, you know, if they're going to hit sixes, they're going to have to hit them really well. And that's going to suit us, hopefully. The wicket won't be as quick as in some other places as well, which is going to be good. Hopefully that will take the sting out of the shots that they play, and a bit out of their pace attack too.

Barry Chambers: It's been a bit of worry the last 15 overs, not just for Ireland, but we've seen it with all countries, a lot of runs can be scored in the last 10-15 overs. Are you thinking of maybe a change in the plans there?

John Mooney: Yeah we had a good meeting yesterday. We've had meetings it seems nearly every day about it, you know, because you just go from game to game looking at the whole tournament, and it is a big worry for every team.

The thing is what we're trying to do is not so much focus on what other sides can do, and more so on what we can do. Try and execute our plans, have the fielders in the right positions. And you know, these batters are class. With only four men outside the ring, you're going to get hit for boundaries, but it's trying to limit the damage, I suppose.

Barry Chambers: Good luck tomorrow.

John Mooney: Cheers Barry.
