Ireland's cricketers trained at the Adelaide Oval on Friday in preparation for Sunday's crucial winner-takes-all game against Pakistan - their final Pool B encounter of the 2015 World Cup.

If the Irish win against Pakistan then the scenario is simple, they will play Australia in the last eight in front of a full house on Friday 20 March in Adelaide.

If the UAE beat West Indies in the early game on Sunday, then both Pakistan and Ireland will progress - regardless of the result in Adelaide.

However, if Ireland were to lose and UAE win, then it's back to New Zealand for Phil Simmons' men for a third time for a game against New Zealand in Wellington in the quarters.

There is no suggestion of rain in Adelaide over the weekend, but there is in Napier on Sunday where the UAE play the Windies.

If that game in New Zealand was abandoned, then the Irish would go through, regardless of the result against Pakistan.

Ireland famously knocked Pakistan out of the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean with Trent Johnston scoring the winning runs and Niall O'Brian helping the side over the line thanks to a fine knock of 72.

The sides have met on five occasions in One Day Internationals since that win on St Patrick's Day eight years ago, the most recent encounter was in Dublin in 2013 when the sides tied at Castle Avenue.

Pakistan are starting to come good after a difficult start to this World Cup losing convincingly to India by 76 runs also at the Adelaide Oval.

That was followed by a thumping at the hands of the West Indies by 150 runs in Christchurch, but they scraped past Zimbabwe by 20 runs at the Gabba, before thumping the UAE by 129 runs in Napier.

In their most recent game, they recorded a thrilling 29-run victory over the South Africans at Auckland, defending a total of 231 to set up Sunday's showdown.

Once again Ireland report no injury problems and have a full squad of 15 players to choose from for a game that has a 3.30am start Irish time (live blog on RTÉ.ie/sport).
