Spin bowler Andy McBrine insists Ireland will go into Sunday's game with Pakistan full of confidence despite coming in off the back of a heavy loss to India.

A win, emulating the famous victory over the same opponents in 2007, would ensure Phil Simmon's side a place in the quarter-finals and a likely meeting with Australia.

McBrine, 21, told RTÉ Sport: “Yes, of course we're confident. We've had a good win against the West Indies.

“All our wins have really been tight games, like UAE was a good game and then the Zimbabwe game.

“We're full of confidence. All our batters are striking the ball well. Our bowlers have done a pretty good job as well. We have all to play for now on Sunday.”

The young Donemana man has played in three of Ireland's games so far and is ready if required for Sunday's crucial tie (3.30am Irish time, live blog on RTÉ.ie/sport).

“All I can do is train hard and get myself mentally prepared for the game and just hope I get the call on Sunday morning,” he said.
