A superb unbeaten century from Leinster Lightning skipper John Mooney wasn't enough to prevent the North West Warriors winning the final match of the Interprovincial T20 Championship at Eglinton on Friday - albeit the visitors took the T20 trophy home courtesy of a single bonus point.

Having been put in to bat on an excellent track the home side came flying out of the traps as Stuart Thompson and David Rankin stamped their authority early on.

The pair put on an opening stand of 71 from just 35 balls before Thompson went for 36. Graeme McCarter added a breezy 32 (2 fours and 2 sixes) but Rankin was very much the anchor for Andy McBrine's team.

The Bready opener is at his best on the front foot and his 76 from 44 balls (9 fours and 2 sixes) allowed the Warriors to close on exactly 200 for 6 in their 20 overs.

John Anderson with 2-27 fared best of the Dubliners' attack.

There was some debate about whether the visitors would shoot for the 201 to win the match or the 155 that would secure the T20 Trophy but skipper Mooney answered that as he led from the front.

The Balbriggan all-rounder took control after Craig Young removed Kenny Carroll in the first over, attacking the home side's bowlers at every opportunity.

Mooney and Anderson (23) added 82 from 46 balls for the second wicket and then the skipper and Andrew Poynter (34 off 20) posted another quick 54 as Lightning threatened that big target to win.

Young (2-32) and a good spell from Gary McClintock (0-19 from 3) pulled the Warriors back into it but not before Mooney had reached his hundred.

In the end the 200 proved just out of reach- the final tally 185-4 meaning a 15-run win for the Warriors. Ireland International Mooney finished unbeaten on 110 (16 fours and 2 sixes).

Hanley Energy CEO Clive Gilmore presented the trophy to the Lightning captain at the end of an enthralling contest while Tyrone Kane was adjudged Player of the Series for his 10 wickets at just 9.50 in a batsmen dominated format.
