It looks as if Ireland have called time on the international career of Kevin O'Brien as he been left out of the 14-man squad for next month's T20 World Cup qualifiers.

Ireland's most capped player was left out of the recent T20 series in the USA, but many thought would be recalled for the vital qualifiers after mixed displays in Florida.

However, it now appears he is unlikely to add to his record tally of 386 caps, having retired from the one-day arena last year.

Also left out is Donemana batter William McClintock, although his Holm  team-mate Andy McBrine is included, while Harry Tector's prolific ODI form sees him back in the T20 squad.

"As we look ahead to the T20 World Cup Qualifier, we know it will be a series of tough, hard-fought games, but hopefully, we can carry the confidence and momentum of the recent series forward to the Qualifier and beyond,: said Andy White.

"The individual performances of the likes of Andy McBrine and Harry Tector were well reported, but the willingness of the squad as a whole to battle through a challenging tour and finish the way they did is a great credit to them.

“I know that the players and coaches were as disappointed as the fans about the early exit from the T20 World Cup last year – but, I also am aware how keenly this group is to rectify the failings of the past. It’s only a short turn around period between the West Indies series and the Qualifier, but it will be enough for the squad to recharge and be ready for an important tournament ahead.”

Ireland are in the same group as UAE, Bahrain and Germany, with the top two going onto play in winner takes all semi-finals for a place in the T20 World Cup in Australia next October.
