Leinster Cricket Club has announced the appointment of Ron Woods as their Women’s and Girl’s Head Coach for the upcoming 2022 season.

Woods is currently the Women’s Head Coach at Penrith Cricket Club, in New South Wales, but will be making the trip to Observatory Lane this April.

He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent the last ten years involved with female cricket from grass roots, Premier Grade, Senior State Academy and WBBL players.

As well as currently coaching at Penrith Cricket Club, Woods previously led the Women’s teams at Parramatta, and was also the Academy Head Coach for Cricket NSW/Female Western programme.

Woods is looking forward to the challenge. “I cannot wait to coach at Leinster CC, I am looking forward to giving 100% of my time and building on the great success of the teams and club and partnering players to grow their skills.”

Women’s section chairwoman, Lorraine Bagnall is excited to welcome Woods to the club.

“Leinster CC has always shown a commitment to the women’s and girl’s game in the club, and we see the appointment of Ron as another example of this. Everyone in the club is looking forward to him building on the great work done to-date by Rob O’Connor.

"We also believe Ron will add a fantastic continuity from the youth section into the adult leagues”.

Leinster CC’s Women’s Firsts have won the Leinster Division One title the last four years, and don’t show any signs of taking their foot off the gas.

The 2022 season will see them introduce a 4th XI, which will make them the first club on the island to have four women’s teams.

Their investment in an overseas women’s coach yet again proves their commitment to their female members.

Irish captain, Laura Delany, is also delighted with the new appointment. “I’m really looking forward to working with Ron, but more than anything, I am excited for the younger players, who will benefit so much from someone with Ron’s experience.

"What’s great about Leinster, is the committee always has an eye on the future, and the development of all players."
