Ireland thumped Oman by nine wickets thanks to fifties from Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling, plus three wickets apiece for Simi Singh and Mark Adair.

It was an emphatic all-round display by the Irish who dominated from the start, as Mark Adair (3-25) set the tone, bowling Prajapati with the second delivery of the match.

Craig Young (2-22) also took an early wicket, and later came back to claim the scalp of the dangerous Shoaib Khan, who top scored with 57 for the hosts.

Simi Singh - playing as the sole off-spinner with Andy McBrine's arrival in Muscat delayed by covid - bowled superbly claiming figures of 3 for 9 as Oman were dismissed for 137.

The Irish fielders backed up the bowling unit superbly, claiming eight catches and a run-out with a sharp, athletic display.

Chasing their relatively modest target, the Irish opening pair of Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling were rarely troubled by an Oman attack lacking any penetration.

The pair took full advantage as they both passed 50 in an opening stand of 103, both clearing the ropes three times.

Stirling (51) was the only wicket to fall, stumped after taking the charge, but that was the solitary success for the home side.

Balbirnie's unbeaten 75 from 49 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes) was enough to ensure the Man-of-the-Match accolade, as Ireland won by nine wickets with 17 balls to spare - Gareth Delany (12*)gaining valuable time in the middle too.

Ireland are back in action on Sunday morning (6am) as they face UAE in their game postponed from Friday due to the Irish team's luggage snafu.
