Brigade will not just be playing for themselves as they attempt to become European champions this week.

The North West Union and Cricket Ireland will be cheering on the Beechgrove side as they could be in line for a 50% share of the top prize of €20,000 if Andy Britton's team can lift the trophy in Spain.

The participation agreement in place with European Cricket League, clubs and Federations ensures that while Brigade will keep all the participation fee for the tournament, the prize money is split on a sliding scale.

The NW stand to collect a minimum of €1000 if Brigade finish last of the five sides, increasing to €5000 if they are champions.

Cricket Ireland will also collect €5000 if Brigade win, but won't collect anything if they finish last, with their percentage increasing depending on finishing position up to a maximum of 25%.

The second place prize is €13,000, third gets €9,000, and fourth €5000.

NW General Manager Peter McCartney has indicated that any prize money won by Brigade will be re-invested into the Union's own club competitions to the benefit of all clubs in the Union, while CI will reinvest into the All-Ireland competitions.
