Gareth Delany hurried Ireland Wolves to victory in the second one-day match against Namibia yesterday to level the five-match series, with two to play.

Delany completed a fine all-round performance by hitting 72 from 55 balls — his last 34 from just 10 — before he holed out going for his fifth six in six deliveries, with the Wolves just 18 runs short of their 162 victory target.

He was well supported by Stephen Doheny, who scored a second successive 37, caught at long-off in what proved to be the last full over, with skipper Neil Rock, fittingly, finishing the game with a four and six with five wickets and more than 22 overs to spare.

James McCollum was the unlucky batsman, run out by the bowler at the non-striker’s end, while Shane Getkate, in for Murray Commins, was bowled first ball.

The Wolves bowlers were also on top from the start to set up the win, with Graham Hume making the initial breakthrough before the spinners took over.

Ben White finished as the most successful, taking four wickets, but he was arguably out-bowled by Delany and Mike Frost, the Malahide slow left-armer on his first tour appearance, who each picked up an economical two wickets, while Fionn Hand again impressed, conceding just eight runs from his five overs.

The next game is tomorrow at 8.30am with Commins and Matt Ford hoping to be available for selection, but Graham Kennedy is still out with a shoulder injury.
