There is a new captain at the FoyleView Arena with Jared Wilson taking over the captaincy reins from Gareth McKeegan.

Newbuildings paid tribute to the outgoing captain on their Facebook page saying:

"The Committee would like to pass on its sincere thanks to Gareth McKeegan for his brilliant leadership over the last two years as captain.

"Gareth is passing on the baton and is fully committed to playing after rehabilitation from his recent knee operation."

The squad is primarily the same as that which just missed out on a major trophy in 2021, with Wilson joining from Ardmore, while Ben Mills is returning to Glendermott.

"Our winter training has gone really well," Wilson told CricketEurope. "Everyone has dusted off the winter cobwebs and we ready to go. The commitment has been first class from the club as a whole.

"The club finished second place in the league last year and made it to the semi-final of the Senior Cup.

"This year we are looking to rectify the small things that potentially put us in those positions and I am confident to say on paper, we are a very well balanced side with a lot of depth.

"Now just to showcase our skills on the pitch and go for top place."
