The two teams at opposite ends of the Cricket World Cup League 2 table met today in a day/night match at the Dubai International Cricket stadium. And whilst Papua New Guinea showed a bit more fight with the bat than they have throughout much of this tournament, in the end Oman chalked up another win and are now just one more win from securing their place at the World Cup Qualifier.

PNG captain Assad Valla won the toss and chose to bat first. Unlike for much of the tournament, his team showed some fight with the bat and were able to post 224-9 from their 50 overs. Charles Amini top scored with 59, whilst Bilal Khan was the pick of the Omani bowlers with 3-39.

Oman lost two wickets early in their reply with Kashyap Prajapati and Shoaib Khan being dismissed in the first and third overs respectively, leaving Oman on 8-2. Jatinder Singh was on hand to keep the ship steady though, initially putting on 45 with Ayaan Khan before Khan was dismissed for 25.

This brought Omani captain Khawar Ali to the crease and the pair proceeded to take the game away from their opponents. Singh brought up his century from 104 balls and eventually finished unbeaten on 118. Khawar Ali scored his runs at a more sedate pace, reaching 57 from 99 balls as the pair put on 174 to secure a seven wicket win.

Papua New Guinea will next be in action tomorrow when they take on Scotland, whilst Oman next play on Friday, also against Scotland.
