Namibia women have today recorded their first ever win over a full member side, beating Zimbabwe today in Windhoek as the Capricorn Tri-Series got underway.

Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat first. Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano dominated the innings, scoring 80 from 59 balls before she was run out in the 17th over. It set the record for the highest ever individual score for Zimbabwe women in T20Is, beating the previous record of 75 set by Modester Mupachikwa against the same opponents in 2019.

Mupachikwa herself was unbeaten on 12 at the end of the Zimbabwean innings. They scored 130-3 from their 20 overs.

In the home team's reply, Sune Wittmann was dismissed for ten early on but a 62 run partnership between Jurriene Diergaard and Yasmeen Khan helped lay a platform for a late charge. The partnership ended when Khan was out for 36 in the 15th over.

The following over started with Wilka Mwatile hitting a four and a six. Helped by a couple of wides, Namibia took 16 from the over, leaving them needing 29 from the last four. Zimbabwe fought back, the next over going for just 1 run and Mwatile losing her wicket.

The 18th over then went for 13 runs, with Diergaardt hitting a six. Just five came from the 19th though, and Namibia needed ten from the last over. Diergaardt scored two from the first ball, followed by a dot. She then hit the third ball for six and ran two more from the fourth ball to secure a seven wicket win with two balls to spare. Diergaardt finished with 62 not out.

Both sides will be in action again tomorrow, both taking on Uganda.
