Alana Dalzell lifted the first silverware of the new season as her Bready side beat Fox Lodge in the final of the Sam McConnell Charity Cup.

The all-rounder is hoping the strong start is the catalyst for another successful season for the Magheramason side.

“It was great to get the season up and running and finally get into the middle,” said Dalzell after collecting the trophy.

“The win was a bonus against a good Fox Lodge side and it was a perfect chance to see some of the younger players in action. With two teams this year and a lot of youth coming through, it’s becoming more competitive which will be very beneficial to women’s cricket at the club.

“We are all looking forward to the new season, where we hope to emulate last year’s success, although we take nothing for granted as the standard of women’s cricket in the region continues to improve, and there will be no shortage of challengers.”
