Shauna Kavanagh's unbeaten 45 steered defending champions the Scorchers to a tense one-wicket win over a spirited Dragons side.

The Irish international's run-a-ball knock included five boundaries and helped her side prevail in a tough battle against a Dragons side that never gave up.

It looked being a routine pursuit as they reached 97 for 3 chasing 149, with runs too for Anna Kerrison (25) and Sophie MacMahon (21).

However, the Dragons  attack persevered and backed by their fielders, they pushed the champions all the way.

Orla Prendergast took two wickets, while there were one apiece for Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Alana Dalzell and Millie Devine.

That the contest would go to the last pair looked highly unlikely as in the first over the day Jane Maguire (3-20) dismissed skipper Leah Paul and Amy Hunter.

Despite brief cameos from Orla Prendergast (24) and Cara Murray (23), the Dragons still faltered, and at 91 for 9, it looked an early finish.

However a last wicket stand of 59 between Mollie Devine (27) and Kate McEvoy (23) gave the Dragons some hope and a total of 148 was something for their bowlers to defend - just not quite enough.

The Super Series continues next Sunday when the Dragons and Typhoons meet at Wallace Park in Lisburn.
