After a rest day on Monday, the CWC League 2 tri-series in Texas continued yesterday as the UAE played their first match of the series, coming up against a Scotland side fresh from their win over the hosts on Sunday.

UAE captain Ahmed Raza won the toss and chose to bat first. Chiral Suri top scored with 69, whilst Chundangapoyil Rizwan scored 55, but only one other batter passed 30. Suri’s 69 came from 121 balls as Scotland’s bowlers kept the scoring rate down.

Chris Sole was the pick of Scotland’s bowlers, taking 4-27 from his nine overs as Scotland kept their opponents to 215-9 from their 50 overs.

Scotland lost Matthew Cross in the first over for just two runs, but fellow opener Kyle Coetzer was in fine form as he batted throughout the run chase. Initially, nobody stayed with for a significant amount of time and Scotland had only managed 88 at the fall of the fifth wicket.

But Michael Leask and Coetzer took the game away from their opponents with a 114 run partnership for the sixth wicket which ended when Leask was trapped lbw by Basil Hameed for 47. No more wickets were lost as Scotland won by 4 wickets with two overs to spare. Coetzer finished unbeaten on 108, his fifth ODI century.

The tri-series continues tomorrow as the UAE take on hosts USA. Scotland will play the UAE again on Friday.
