There could be a bit of history over the next few weeks with Alana Dalzell a potential debutant for Ireland Women in their six-match series against South Africa.

If the Bready all-rounder gets the green light, she will become the first North West born player to represent the senior Ireland ranks since Julie Logue won the first of her 19 caps in 1988.

There will be none more proud than Logue, if the 21 year-old Dazzle follows in her footsteps.

"It was with total delight and pride on hearing on Alana’s selection for the Ireland Women's team," Logue told CricketEurope.

"I’ve known Alana from a young age coming through club cricket to playing with her as part of the North West Ladies.

"I can honestly say no-one deserves it more than her for her total commitment and dedication to reaching this goal.

"It’s been a long time in coming that another woman from the North West has made their dreams come true, I wish Alana every success for the future, and it will be a proud moment to see her walk out on to the feild to represent her country and North West."

Ireland play six games against South Africa starting with the first T20 International on Friday at Pembroke (4.30pm).
