IRELAND women were unable to repeat Friday’s famous victory over South Africa last night (MON) as the tourists eased to an eight-wicket win at Sydney Parade that leaves the T20 series level at 1-1 going into tomorrow’s (WED) final game.

Skipper Gaby Lewis led the way for her team, lifting a six and stroking three fours as she made 31 at better than a run a ball but only Mary Waldron with 24 offered any serious support as the innings staggered to 106-7.

Newcomer Arlene Kelly again showed her potential with the ball for Ireland, taking one of the two wickets to fall as she conceded 13 runs from three overs, but a solid 52 from opener Lara Goodall helped South Africa home with a full five overs to spare.

“We thought anything over 100 was a good score on that pitch but we didn’t back it up in the field and we’ll look to work on that and come back hard again next time,” Lewis said.
