Peter Chase has retired from international cricket after eight years and 43 caps.

The 28 year-old Malahide seamer missed the 2021 season with a serious Achilles injury in his right foot, so it was something of a surprise when he was awarded a full-time contract for the 2022 campaign.

His comeback was cut short when he tore his left Achilles during the Ireland Wolves tour of Namibia ahead of the new season, and this latest setback has seen him call it a day in the international arena.

“After suffering a year-long injury during 2021, I was excited and motivated for the 2022 season," said Chase.

"However, during the recent tour to Namibia, I suffered another season-ending injury during only my third game back, which was a tough one to take.

"I love representing Ireland, and I pride myself on my work ethic and resilience, however, I have been unable to play over the past two seasons. With the likelihood of no representative cricket for another year due to this injury, I feel it is the right time to move on and start something new."

Chase has a degree in Sport Science & Health from DCU and recently gained his Masters in Sport Management from UCD.

He won 43 caps after his debut in 2014 against Sri Lanka A at Stormont, taking 60 wickets at 38.57, with his best-bowling 4-35 against India at his home ground - a stand-out memory for the affable Dubliner.

“I am so proud to have been able to represent Ireland and I have loved every second of it. I got to live out a childhood dream and travel the world playing the game I love with my friends.

“There are numerous memories and experiences of playing for Ireland that I will cherish, but the one that really sticks out for me are the games against India at a sold-out Malahide. To perform well at my home ground in front of my friends and family was surreal.

"I will never forget walking into the clubhouse after that first game. The reaction was crazy. If you didn’t know the result, you would have thought Ireland had won the game! Getting to experience that moment with my family and friends was special."

Chase also played first-class cricket with Durham, and was a pivotal figure in Leinster Lightning's interprovincial domination.

He plans to still play club and interprovincial cricket once he recovers from injury.
