Woodvale II 180/4 (30 overs; R Restieaux 66*, J Gibson 59, E Scott 25; O Adair 2-57)
Glendermott (target 198 in 30 overs) 127 all out (20.4 overs; T Lynch 58, S Laird 28; Mustafa Khan 4-49, Anish Gopalakrishnan 2-20; E Scott 2-28)

Half centuries from Ronan Restieaux and Jamie Gibson ensured a safe passage for Woodvale into the last eight at The Rectory.

Gibson hit seven boundaries in his 59, sharing an opening stand of 74 with Euan Scott (25).

The real fireworks though came from South African Restieaux who hit 5 sixes and 5 fours in his unbeaten 66 from just 29 balls – 69 runs coming in the last six overs as Woodvale posted 180 for 4 (adjusted to 188 by DLS).

Scott Laird (28) hit three sixes to get the Glendermott reply off to a fast start, but four wickets by Mustafa Khan soon had the reply in trouble.

The home side’s hopes rested with Tyler Lynch, who made an entertaining 58 from 42 balls (8 fours, 2 sixes), but with little other contributions in the batting, it was always a struggle.

Two wickets for Anish and Euan Scott saw Glendermott bowled out for 127, losing by 70 runs.

At Middle Road, Ardmore beat Carrickfergus by 11 runs (DLS)
Ardmore II 192/9 (37 overs; S Gormley 47, C King 44; R Arbuthnot 3-23, A Haggan 2-34)
Carrickfergus II (target 163 in 28 overs) 151 all out (27.2 overs; A Haggan 55, B Cave 31; M Rowlands 3-10, Geo Brolly 3-18, Edrees Kharotai 2-27)

Ardmore edged out Carrick by 11 runs (DLS) in an entertaining match at Middle Road.

A fourth wicket stand of 64 in nine overs between Sean Gormley and Conor King helped the Bleachgreen side 192 for 9 in 37 overs.

Gormley top-scored with 47 (6 fours, 1 six), while fellow left-hander King hit seven boundaries in his 44 from 40 deliveries.

Robin Arbuthnot and Alex Haggan each took two wickets for Carrick.

Haggan and Ben Cave looked to be powering Carrick into the next round as they added 69 in just seven overs, chasing a revised 163 in 28 overs.

Haggan made 55 from 60 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes), while Cave also cleared the ropes three times in his 31 from just 13 balls.

Ardmore’s death bowlers did the trick, with three wickets each for veteran George Brolly, and Matt Rowlands, while Edrees Kharotai claimed two in a contest that ebbed and flowed throughout.

At Beechgrove, Brigade beat North Down by 29 runs (DLS)
Brigade II 156/9 (30 overs; A Baggley 36, M Simpson 29, L Williamson 19; M Moreland 4-41)
North Down II (target 159 in 28 overs) 129/7 (28 overs; H Coulter 39, D Corbett 33, G Anderson 20; N Gray 2-14)

2015 champions Brigade are safely through after a 29-run (DLS) win over North Down at Beechgrove.

An opening stand of 48 between Andrew Baggley (36) and Lee Williamson (19) set Brigade on their way, and with skipper Mark Simpson hitting 29, they reached 156 for 9 in their 30 overs. Marty Moreland four wickets was the pick of the Comber side’s attack.

Hamilton Coulter (39) and Dan Corbett (33) were both in the runs, but with the required rate reaching double figures, North Down were always playing catch-up.

Nick Gray (2-14) and Mark Simpson (1-11) both bowled frugal spells to clinch the win.

At Wallace Park, Bready beat Lisburn by 8 runs
Bready II 210/6 (40 overs; D McCloskey 64, R Spence 54, J McKillop 28, R Clarke 27, G Roulston 20; R McConkey 2-24, R Booth 2-41)
Lisburn II 202/10 (38.1 overs; C Burns 106; G Roulston 3-33, J McKillop 2-28, J McKillop 2-54)

Closest game of the day came at Wallace Park, where the home side lost to two-times winners Bready despite the best efforts of Chris Burns, who hit a century.

Burns hit 10 fours and 5 sixes in a superb 106 as they replied to Bready’s 210 for 6. However, he received little support as three wickets for Gavin Roulston, and two apiece for James McKillop and Dean McCloskey sealed a hard-fought eight-run win.

McCloskey (64) and Robert Spence (54) both hit half centuries in the Bready innings, while there were also 20s from James McKillop (28), Ryan Clarke (27) and Gavin Roulston (20).

Eglinton II beat CSNI II 1-0 in a bowl-out (Nigel Thompson hitting in sudden death)

Despite the inclement weather, only one of the scheduled eight matches went to the dreaded bowl-out with Eglinton and CSNI conducting the shoot-out remotely.

The first ten attempts saw nobody managing to hit the target, sending it into a sudden death scenario.

Former Irish international Nigel Thompson was the Eglinton hero, on target to send the holders into the last eight.

At The Lawn, Waringstown beat Fox Lodge by 7 wickets
Fox Lodge II 61 all out (20.4 overs; J Faulkner 19*; B Snell 4-13, A Harrison 2-8, J Froggatt 2-12, R Bessell 2-25)
Waringstown 62/3 (12.2 overs; J Hunter 15; A McNeill 3-24)

Ben Snell and Ross Waite combined to help Waringstown into the next round as they took four wickets and four catches apiece in an easy win against Fox Lodge at The Lawn.

Fox Lodge slumped to 34 for 9 and it took an unbeaten 19 from number ten Joel Faulkner to get them up to 61 – the last wicket stand of 27 almost doubling the score.

As well as Snell’s 4 for 13, there were two wickets apiece for Alan Harrison, Josh Froggatt, and Rory Bessell.

Andrew McNeill claimed 3 for 24 in the chase, but it was only a consolation as Jonathan Hunter (15), Shane Burke (13), and Jamie Matthews (12*) all reached double figures as the seven wickets win was achieved in the 13th over.

At The Boathole, CIYMS beat St Johnston by 6 wickets
St Johnston II 88 all out (29.5 overs; A Macbeth 21; J Mulder 5-11)
CIYMS II 91/4 (11.3 overs; J Mulder 32; S Devenney 2-13)

Another former Irish international was to the fore as 2017 winners CIYMS beat St Johnston by six wickets at the Boathole.

Alan Macbeth (21) took the Donegal side to 40 for 0 batting first, but the introduction of Jacob Mulder saw the wheels come off as he claimed five for 11 with his leg-spin, to send the Saints to 88 all out.

Scott Devenney (2-13) took two wickets in the Belmont side’s reply, but Mulder hurried proceedings along as he cleared the ropes three times and hit two fours in his 32 from just 18 balls.

Karthik Rajavelu also made 18 not out as the six wickets win was achieved in just the 12th over.

Donemana II 109/5 (25.5 overs; M Moore 38*, J Huey 24; A Oduvelil 2-21. D Steen 2-30)

Four-time winners Donemana are safely through after a five wickets win over 2012 winners Muckamore at Moylena.

The home side found conditions tough as they struggled to 106 all out with Jamie Jackson top scoring with 21, and 20s from Ravi Shanbogue and Shane Henderson.

DJ Dougherty claimed four wickets, while there were two each for Chris Neely, and another former Irish international – Dwayne McGerrigle.

A second wicket stand of 66 between Jamie Huey (24) and Mark Moore (38*) all but settled the contest, despite two wickets apiece for Arnold Oduvelil (2-21) and David Steen (2-30).

The Holm side reached their target in the 26th over and will be among the favourites to win a fifth crown.
