Graham Hume has been named in the Ireland squad for next month’s World Cup Super League series against New Zealand, the No.1-ranked one-day international side.

The call-up is reward not only for performances in this year’s Inter-provincial Cup, where he took 10 wickets at an average of just 9.4, but also the South African’s repeated seasons of consistent form with the new ball while qualifying for Ireland, first with Coleraine and since last year with Waringstown.

William Porterfield was also in the original squad, due to be announced earlier in the week, but following his retirement he has been replaced by Stephen Doheny, who has a chance of making his Ireland debut in the T20Is against India this month.

Neil Rock will be the other change from Ireland’s last WCSL game in January, when they completed a 2-1 series victory over West Indies, with Lorcan Tucker returning as first-choice wicket-keeper in the ODI arena.

The three games, all at Malahide, are on July 10, 12 and 15 and will give Ireland another chance to add to their impressive record in the League, having already beaten England and South Africa.

Ireland squad: A Balbirnie (capt), M Adair, C Campher, G Delany, G Dockrell, S Doheny, G Hume, J Little, A McBrine, S Singh, P Stirling, H Tector, L Tucker, C Young.
