Tanzania have won the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament after they beat Kenya in today’s final.

They won the toss and chose to bat first this afternoon at the Gahanga stadium in Kigali. They were on the back foot at 58-5 but a knock of 29 from 24 balls by Perice Kamunya helped them post 114 before they lost their final wicket on the last ball of their 20 overs. Five of the wickets came via run outs.

Kenya lost captain Queentor Abel from the very first ball of their reply and never really recovered from there. Esther Wachira’s 17 was their top score as they were bowled out for 70, losing by 44 runs. Nasra Saidi was the pick of the bowlers with 3-12.

It ended a very successful tournament for Tanzania who also won all seven of their round-robin games. Earlier today, Uganda had made short work of hosts Rwanda, bowling them out for 50 and then chasing down their target in 9.4 overs to win by eight wickets.

In the fifth place play-off yesterday, Nigeria beat Brazil by 30 runs, Salome Sunday’s 32 when they batted proving to be crucial. In the seventh place game, Germany recorded a first tournament win when they beat Botswana by six wickets.
