Namibia continued to show just how good a T20 side they are with two wins in one day yesterday against USA and Jersey at the United Club Ground in Windhoek.

In the first match of the day, USA were put into bat by Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus. Ruben Trumpelmann removed Steven Taylor and Aaron Jones before a run was scored and only two more runs were added before the third wicket fell.

Monank Patel led a one man fight back with an unbeaten 96 but the next highest score was 15 by Gajanand Singh. The visitors were bowled out for 136. Patel’s innings was only the second time a player has carried his bat in a men’s T20I innings and he contributed 70.59% of the runs, the second highest proportion of runs scored by one player in a completed men’s T20I innings.

Namibia lost Stephan Baard for just four early in their reply but were otherwise untroubled. Divan la Cock and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton scored 80 and 51 respectively as they completed a nine wicket win with four overs to spare.

Jersey chose to bat first in the second match of the day. Asa Tribe again showed his class with 67 from 50 balls, top scoring in Jersey’s total of 167-8. Tangeni Lungameni was the pick of the Namibian bowlers with 3-20.

Namibia didn’t have as simple a chase as in the opening match, losing seven wickets as they chased down their target with an over to spare. Stephan Baard top scored with 41 as the home side secured victory in the tri-series with two games still to come.

Those two games will be between Jersey and the USA with the first taking place today.

Correction: Since this report was written it has emerged that the relevant member boards have agreed to play this tri-series as practice matches without T20I status.
