They have one trophy already in the bag, but Munster Reds Head Coach Ted Williamson is looking to double up with the T20 title on the line at the end of the month.

A wash-out at Eglinton on Friday secured the first piece of silverware, but Williamson would have preferred to have won the game on the field.

"It wasn’t the way we wanted to lift the trophy," Williamson told CricketEurope.

"I feel for the Warriors, they were great competitors the whole way through. We can’t control the weather though. Ultimately, we are delighted to take home the trophy to Munster.

"The win is testament to the squad. They are a great bunch, who work hard and smile a lot. They enjoy each other’s company and success. It’s a massive win for them and a bit of history I suppose, to have another name on the trophy, with it being dominated by Leinster Lightning for a while now.

"It’s as far as I know the first time Munster has won anything from a senior perspective, so will give a huge lift to the people living locally. This sort of an achievement inspires both youngsters and adults. We talked with the group at the start of the season about building on last year and taking the next step which was about competing for trophies.

"We now have one in the cabinet and the next goal will be to compete for the next one, the T20 in Pembroke, which they are well capable of doing."

There has been criticism of the composition of the Munster squad, but Williamson sees the bigger picture as the first seeds of success have been sown.

"It was great last week to see Munster Heat come through their first game in the Emerging Series and beat the Emerging Knights. There is some talent coming through there, and we have already seen some Munster players in the Reds this year.

"The next part of the process for us is to get more of the Heat guys competing for senior places in the squad as the years go on. We are so delighted to have won this and there has been so many people involved behind the scenes, with players, coaches, admin staff, all helping out.

"I’m just so pleased for all the people of Munster and it will give a massive lift and boost for everyone.

"I’m really looking forward now to the opportunity of making it a double, and we will certainly be trying our best."
