Amy Hunter again played the starring role as Dragons won their first Super 20 match of the season, beating the Typhoons at Rathmines yesterday by five wickets.

Hunter hit 69 from 50 balls, with six fours and two sixes, and although her dismissal, with just seven runs required, led to the loss of four wickets for two runs, they had 10 balls to spare at the finish.

After restricting the Typhoons, led by Ireland skipper Laura Delany, to 137 for six, Hunter and Leah Paul put on 59 for the first wicket but after the Ireland international was caught at mid-on for 20, Hunter went serenely on, bringing up her 50 in just 31 balls and sharing a second wicket stand of 72 with Sarah Forbes.

Hunter finally fell to a full toss from Ireland team-mate Celeste Raack, caught at mid-wicket but victory was well in sight, although Raack took two more wickets including the North West pair of Jemma Rankin and Alana Dalzell.

Waringstown’s Cara Murray tied the scores by driving her first ball, from Georgina Dempsey, over extra cover for four and Arlene Kelly completed victory in the next over.

Delany showed an encouraging return to form after her long-lay off from injury, hitting seven boundaries in her 53 from 42 balls, before she was bowled by Kelly in the penultimate over.

Paul was the most successful bowler while Murray had figures of one for 32 from her three overs.
