Newbuildings collected their second Faughan Valley Cup in three years after a surprisingly emphatic 77-run win over holders Brigade at Bonds Glen.

It was old boys Johnny Thompson (39) and Gareth McKeegan (34) who did most of the damage with the bat, both hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes in their knocks as they posted 149 – three wickets for Brigade captain Andy Britton and Jamie Millar.

Brigade’s reply never gained any momentum as a fired up Newbuildings bowled and fielded like dervishes.

Trent McKeegan set the tone with a superb diving effort at third man, and after two wickets apiece for JT and Ross Hunter, plus one for skipper Wilson, Gary Mitchell took centre stage.

His inspired spell saw him pick up five wickets for just 12 runs to earn the Man-of-the-Match accolade and send his team into Friday’s Senior Cup final in buoyant mood.
