Merrion won the Women’s Senior Cup with a fine all-round display beating Clontarf by 79 runs at Sydney Parade.

The victory was set up by an opening stand of 149 between Irish internationals Leah Paul and Rebecca Stokell.

The pair each scored half centuries, with Stokell hitting eight boundaries as she made 70 from 54 balls, while left-hander Paul hit four fours in her 58 from 54 deliveries.

The pair were both dismissed in successive balls by Julie McNally (2-29) as Merrion ended on 160 for 2.

In the chase, openers Bhavi Devchand and Christina Coulter-Reilly both made 17 as the Castle Avenue side reached 42 for 1.

However, four wickets for Celeste Raack (4-11) and three for Julianne Morrissey (3-25) saw them bowled out for 81 in the 17th over.

The men’s final between The Hills and Clontarf was abandoned and will be replayed at a date still tbc.
