Scotland continued to close the gap on CWC League 2 table toppers Oman after recording a win over the USA today at Mannofield Park in Aberdeen.

Scotland captain Matthew Cross won the toss and put the visitors into bat on another warm day in Aberdeen with openers Steven Taylor and Sushant Modani putting on 80 before Taylor was trapped lbw by Mark Watt for 37.

Modani went on to score 52 before he was the next man out, with his dismissal bringing Aaron Jones to the crease. The New Yorker proceeded to dominate the rest of the innings, scoring his maiden ODI century as he stroked an unbeaten 123 from 87 balls to take his team to 295-8 from their 50 overs.

Kyle Coetzer and Craig Wallace opened Scotland’s reply with a 72 run opening partnership before both fell in quick succession. This brought Calum MacLeod to the crease and like his fellow number four Jones, he made over 100, scoring 117 from 91 balls before he was removed by Steven Taylor five overs from the end of the game.

No more wickets were lost as Chris Greaves and Michael Leask completed the run chase, Leask securing victory when he hit Saurabh Netravalkar for a six from the fourth ball of the 48th over. The five wicket win moves Scotland to just six points behind Oman with a massive ten games in hand.

Scotland are back in action tomorrow when they play the UAE, whilst USA play next on Monday, also against the UAE.
