Leah Paul and Laura Delany hit centuries in Amstelveen yesterday as Ireland made their highest one-day international total and beat the Netherlands by 210 runs to take a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Skipper Delany, who had fallen first ball on Monday, struck nine boundaries as she helped Paul add 236, an Ireland record for any wicket, and both batters had completed maiden ODI hundreds when she was unluckily run out for 109 from 101 balls.

Opener Paul took her score on to another Ireland best of 137 from 138 balls, with 15 fours, before she was also run out, and despite a late flurry of wickets, including a third golden duck of the week, the Girls in Green posted a massive 337-8.

The Dutch at least bettered their 84 all out from the first game but Cara Murray broke the back of the reply with 5-39 and a day of records was complete when the hosts were dismissed for 127 to give Ireland their biggest win in 50-overs cricket.

“I just loved batting out there with Paulie,” Delany said. “It’s the first time we’ve batted together and it went pretty well! She was absolutely outstanding the way she went through the gears, but it hot out there and tough going for both of us by the end.”
