Bready came close to another Premiership crown, but were pipped at the post by Newbuildings. They had the consolation of the Eric Cooke Cup, but will have hoped for more from the campaign.

They lost just one league match all season, by eight runs in Coleraine, and that is the harsh reality of a format that sees clubs playing just 10/11 matches to decide a title. It's hardly anywhere near enough but that's what we have in the region.

The batting was led by professional Irosh Samrasooriya, who made five of their 15 half-centuries, as well as one of their only two hundreds, on his way to 667 runs at 39.24.

Former Irish international David Rankin was next in the aggregates list, making 522 at 37.28, with the other century as well as three fifties.

Jamie Magee also scored three fifties in his tally of 360 at 27.69. Skipper David Scanlon made 329 runs at 32.90, which was just ahead of Irish U19 international Scott Macbeth, who hit 322 at 24.77.

Others worthy of a mention were Gavin Roulston (289 at 15.21), Ian Young (252 at 31.50 - two 50s) and James McKillop (149 at 16.50).

In the bowling, 'Sca' topped the charts, claiming 31 wickets at 14.13, with Gregory McFaul second in his 24 scalps at 19.54, helped as he took one of the two five-wicket hauls by the club.

Irosh took 22 wickets at 16.82, while teenage spinners Gavin Roulston (18 at 13.61) and Scott Macbeth (17 at 16.82) both did well.

Ian Young also took 17 wickets at 23.59, and his 5 for 10 against Fox Lodge was the other five-wicket haul.

In a sign that there is more to cricket than just stats, Conor Olphert earned an Ireland debut and a World Cup berth despite taking only 14 wickets in 2022 at 17.21 - his appearances curtailed once again by an injury plagued campaign. Thankfully Heinrich Malan and the selectors look beyond the modest domestic numbers.

In the fielding stakes, Irosh took 13 catches, David Scanlon 11, while Ryan Clarke and Gavin Roulston made 10 apiece.
