After the quadruple of 2021, it was a disappointing season for Brigade in 2022, with only the Sammy Jeffrey Cup and the charity Sam McConnell Cup to show for their efforts.

They did reach the final of the Faughan Valley T20 Cup, but a horror batting display saw them well beaten by Newbuildings. There was also first round cup exits in the Irish and NW Senior Cups. Their league campaign never really got going either, more or less over by the time the group stages finished.

That's not to say there weren't some very good individual displays with David Barr leading the way as he made 766 runs at 40.31(5 fifties).

That was just ahead of Adam McDaid who hit 760 runs at exactly 40, making two hundreds and two half centuries.

Ifty Hussain made 656 runs at 27.33 (2 fifties, 1 hundred), while skipper Andy Britton made a century in the Sammy Jeffrey decider on his way to 408 runs at 45.33.

Graeme McCarter's knee injury meant he couldn't bowl, but he did manage to bat, making 385 runs at 25.66, while Kyle Magee's limited availability saw him total 348 runs at 24.86 (3 fifties).

The bowling unit was more or less unchanged all season, with Jamie Millar arriving midway through and Mark Simpson joining late in the campaign.

They didn't scale the heights of previous campaigns and conceded too many extras too often.

Ryan Macbeth was the stand-out, and maybe that explains why his name is being mentioned across the Glenshane. It would be a surprise though if 'Turf' opted for pastures new away from Beechgrove.

He claimed an impressive 39 wickets at just 14.21. That was way clear of Ifty Hussain, who was his usual consistent self in claiming 30 wickets at 21.20.

There were a further five bowlers grouped closely together, all passing the 20 wickets mark.

DD Barr managed 23 at 26.39, while Jamie Millar did well despite his late arrival - his six wickets and 103 runs in the Sammy Jeffrey final getting him the Man-of-the-Match accolade. That saw him take 21 wickets at 18.05, while Ryan Barr also took 21 scalps - at 25.43.

Andy Britton's elbow injury restricted his bowling, but he did get 20 wickets at 25.05, while Nick Gray managed 20 too, at a cost of 28.15.

There will no doubt be moves to strengthen the side, and an overseas professional is being considered.

It promises to be an interesting close season on the Limavady Road.
