It was a very mixed season for Pembroke, who despite lifting the Senior League Cup were relegated from the Premiership on the final day of the season.

They more than most struggled with player availability, victims of the busy home international season. Indeed, Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie only took part in two matches, scoring one run and taking one wicket!

Skipper Theo Lawson topped the batting aggregates with 881 runs at 38.80, which included six fifties and one of their three senior hundreds.

Poonish Mehta was next with 621 runs at 36.53, while when his international commitments allowed, Lorcan Tucker managed 591 runs at an impressive average of 49.25. His younger sibling Diarmaid chipped in with seven fifties in his tally of 575 at exactly 23.

JJ Garth hit two fifties in his 391 runs at 19.45, while others who were in the runs included Paul Lawson (256), Danny Hogan (240), Barry McCarthy (219), David Cosgrave (199), Rob Kelly (183), and Gavin Hoey (145).

The bowling attack was led by Piyush Sharma who claimed 35 wickets at 24.08, while Poonish Mehta took 33 wickets at 18.76 - both having five wicket hauls in their tally.

Paul Lawson managed 33 wickets at 28.30, while Gavin Hoey's leg-spin saw him take 24 scalps at 25.47.

The other bowler who passed the 20-wicket mark was Donncha Tucker, with his 21 victims coming at 25.47 apiece.

Other bowlers worthy of note were Joe Prendergast (13 wickets), Barry McCarthy (11) and Ryan Hopkins (10).

The challenge for Pembroke will be getting their best players on the park in 2023. With another busy Ireland season planned, it may be easier said than done.
