Ireland will play Sri Lanka in Hobart on Sunday in their first Super 12 T20 World Cup game if they beat West Indies tomorrow, assuming there is a winner in the evening game between Scotland and Namibia.

Sri Lanka, the only Full Member nation in Group A, finished in first place but only because UAE won their first World Cup game, to knock out Namibia who would have usurped Sri Lanka at the top with a better run rate if they had won.

However, Muhammad Waseem, who won the qualifying final against Ireland in Oman last February with a superb century, was the man of the match again for UAE yesterday this time scoring 50 and bowling two overs including the last when Namibia needed 14 to win.

Not only did he concede just six runs but he also had David Wiese caught on the long-on boundary in the final over, the catch denying the Namibia star batsman the six which would have effectively won the match and sent them into the Super 12s.

But instead of probably playing the winners of the Ireland-West Indies game, Namibia head home and Netherlands, despite losing to Sri Lanka by 16 runs in the first match in Geelong today, finished second in Group A and will play Bangladesh in Hobart on Monday.

A rained-off second match today - not entirely an unlikely scenario - would propel the winners of the Ireland-West Indies game to the top of Group B and they would then play South Africa in the evening match in Hobart on Monday.
