The Netherlands took on India in the T20 World Cup today at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the first time the teams have met since the 2011 ODI World Cup, excluding a meeting in the 2012 Hong Kong Sixes.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first, and the Dutch started well when KL Rahul was trapped lbw by Paul van Meekeren in the third over. This brought Virat Kohli to the crease, fresh from his unbeaten 82 against Pakistan the other day.

Kohli's form continued, and he put on 73 for the second wicket with Rohit Sharma before the latter was out for 52 from 39 balls. He then put on an unbroken 95 with Suryakumar Yadav and finished unbeaten on 62 from 44 balls. Yadav clubbed 51 from only 25 balls as India racked up 179-2 from their 20 overs.

The Dutch managed to bat out their overs in reply but no batter was able to make a significant contribution, with Tim Pringle's 20 the top score. Four Indian bowlers took two wickets as the Dutch were kept to 123-9, losing by 56 runs.

The Netherlands will next bein action on Sunday when they take on Pakistan in Perth.
