Terenure’s Young Centurions

While centuries have been more abundant than usual for Terenure with three at senior level in recent weeks, it has been a pair scored by their youth players that have most impressed the powers that be in the club.

Sarah Prendergast, aged 13, became their youngest female centurion, powering her way to 101 off 48 deliveries before being retired in a cup match against Mullingar for their second team. She smashed 14 fours and 2 sixes in a commanding knock, which had all in the club singing her praises.

Sarah has already made several first team appearances and impressed at Leinster underage level.

Gethin Kelleher, aged 14, coming from rich cricketing stocks, scored his first century for the men’s third team in Terenure.

Chasing North Kildare’s imposing total of 242, he came to the crease earlier than expected with the score 1 for 1 and the pressure on. Dominating partnerships of 79 and 80 along the way, Gethin struck 15 fours and 1 six in a masterful 113 that left his team mates a comfortable job of knocking off the winning runs.

Gethin has also been in the minds of representative selectors, and made his first team debut earlier this year.

All at Terenure are delighted that Sarah and Gethin’s hard work is paying off and are looking forward to more runs (and wickets) from the pair in the future.
