The Netherlands registered a second comfortable victory over the United States on Saturday, ending the tournament in seventh place with a 126-run win.

It may have been scant compensation for the Orange Lionesses' loss of ODI status through defeat by Ireland on Thursday, but the manner of the victory offered some hope for the future as well as emphasising the gap between the two top Associates and the emerging countries immediately below them.

All the Dutch top order made significant contributions to a total of 293 for seven after US captain Doris Francis won the toss and elected to field: Miranda Veringmeier (48) and Denise Hannema (39) put on 78 for the first wicket, skipper Helmien Rambaldo passed fifty for her country for the ninth time as she made 53, adding 78 for the third wicket with Kerryanne Tomlinson, and then Tomlinson and Esther Lanser (24 from just 29 deliveries) punished the tiring American bowlers as they piled on the runs.

Tomlinson top-scored with a 65-ball innings of 73, including eight fours and two sixes, and after she went the remaining batters (including Hannah Hofman on her international debut) pushed the total up to just short of 300.

Akshatha Rao was the pick of the American bowlers, removing both openers and finishing with two for 59, while Erica Rendler claimed two for 40 and there was a wicket apiece for Samantha Ramautar and Ritu Bhargava.

The US reply to an imposing Dutch total began steadily, reaching 61 in the 24th over, of which Nadia Gruny contributed a painstaking 74-ball 6.

Laura Brouwers bowled splendidly economically with the new ball, but it was Tomlinson who grabbed the match by the scruff of the neck with a hat-trick - only the second for the Netherlands in international cricket - removing first Gruny and then Ramautar and Shebani Bhaskar to reduce the Americans to 61 for three.

Francis tried to hit her way out of trouble with four boundaries in a 9-ball 17, but her departure triggered a further collapse, and when opener Rendler was run out by Rambaldo for a solid 36 the USA were teetering on the brink at 87 for seven.

The Dutch were unable to press home their advantage, however, with Triholder Marshall and Anahita Arora resisting for 16 overs as they added 72 for the eighth wicket. It was, inevitably, Player of the Match Tomlinson who returned to remove Arora for 32, but Marshall (37 not out) and Sara Farooq batted out the remaining overs as the USA ended on 167 for eight.

Tomlinson finished with four for 42, while Brouwers conceded just 11 runs in her ten overs without claiming a wicket. There was a wicket each for Lanser, Leonie Bennett and Rambaldo.
