Ireland drew with MCC
2 Day, Ormeau, 10 August 1928
Scorecard
Derek Scott

Ireland finished the first day in a strong position. They had gained a 50 run lead on first innings and two MCC wickets were down for 27 in their second innings. The day was dull but warm and a moderate crowd attended. They saw the ball in the ascendancy all day. First Dixon and Harris for Ireland and then CK Hill-Wood for MCC. The first five MCC wickets fell for 47, 4 of them to Dixon. Lowndes was brilliantly caught at full length by McVeagh. However, DJ Hill-Wood batted very well for his 23 and held his side together before he, too, fell a victim to the admirable Dixon. James Macdonald was unable to bowl effectively due to a damaged finger. It was left to Harris to finish off the innings which he did by taking three quick wickets just after lunch.

CK Hill-Wood, as in Dublin, bowled excellently and all the Irishmen had to fight hard for runs. TJ Macdonald got to 27 before Lowndes bowled him while McVeagh accumulated 19. Ganly, the captain, hit vigorously at number five and came out with the top score of 37. Cazalet and DJ Hill-Wood were out in the MCC second innings for 27 when play ended for the day.

Rain on the second day restricted play to two hours and so prevented a result being reached. Play started at 3 p.m. Toyne was out at once, caught off a long hop from Thornton. Lowndes and Cartwright then came together and put on 84 for the fourth wicket. Eventually Lowndes was caught by McVeagh off Dixon when four short of his half century. At 5 p.m. more rain fell and the match was abandoned. The Irish fielding was poor and the bowlers were handicapped by the wet ball.
