For the first of the two matches against MCC, played at Sion Mills ground in Strabane, TJ Macdonald and GM Crothers cried off the originally selected team and were replaced by R W Moore and WB Goulding.

This game was the first to be played under the auspices of the North West Cricket Union. Moore and Edgar opened for Ireland and a good stand seemed probable when Moore was unfortunately run out for 23. Shearer came in and with Edgar put on over 100 runs before the number three was out after playing delightful cricket. Edgar completed a very fine century but was bowled soon afterwards with the score at 216-3. Macdonald and Lambert continued the bright vein of cricket and put on 82 runs for the fourth wicket. At five o'clock the innings was declared closed at 305-4. Edgar's sound and splendid century contained 13 fours. Macdonald's forceful 82 not out included four sixes and eight fours.

In the 90 minutes remaining the MCC did well to score 85 for one wicket thus to some extent neutralising the great innings of the Irish team. Butterworth's was the wicket that fell, he made 42. Seamer at the close was 30 not out.

Next day Seamer got to 44; Belle made 36; Enthoven and Tremlett came together in a good stand and Zambra hit merrily in a last wicket stand. Macdonald, three wickets, Ward and Moore, two wickets each, bowled steadily and the last wicket fell at 257. Ireland, going in again, began very badly. Four wickets fell for 40 and six were down for 71. James Macdonald and Lambert averted disaster and took the score to 119. At this score both Lambert and Martin were dismissed and Ireland declared, although there was very little chance of a result. In this innings Lambert hit out very well and Macdonald scored by attractive leg-side strokes.

In the time remaining three MCC wickets fell for 58 runs, Martin taking all three. At six o'clock rain stopped play and the match was left drawn.
