Ireland International Matches
Sir Julian Cahn's XI drew with Ireland

The New Zealand Test players CS Dempster and Roger Blunt joined Sir Julien Cahn's XI for the return game against Ireland. Crisp and Morkel were also playing and when the Irishman were put into bat Crisp proved his greatness by taking 6-21 in 13 overs of very fast and accurate bowling. In nine overs he had taken six wickets for 12 runs and Ireland had lost seven wickets for 42. Cahn changed his bowling and in all used seven bowlers in an innings that only lasted 1¾ hours. This may have been instrumental in allowing McFarlane and Mellon to add 49 for the eighth wicket. McFarlane batted 55 minutes and made 27 runs before being caught at deep square leg while hitting at Cahn, a man who did not usually bowl. Butterworth came on and took the last two wickets in eight balls and the final total was only 94. This was a sadly depleted Irish team. Morgan and Billingsley had been injured in the previous game while Shearer had been suddenly called home on business. AE Bex, the Honorary Secretary of the Irish Cricket Union, filled the 11th place on the team.

Ingram Boucher and Mellon were the only bowlers playing and Mellon was hardly up to international class as a bowler. He bowled six overs while Ingram and Boucher bowled 53 overs between them. Again they were in terrific form and it was a marvellous feat on their part to dismiss Cahn's XI for 155. Boucher accounted for Rhodes and Blunt in his first 15 balls and three wickets were down for 37. Dempster and Morkel scored 64 for the fourth wicket in an hour. Dempster had to work very hard for his 39 while Morkel scored 26. Then Boucher and Ingram found their second wind and soon nine were out for 126. Crisp joined Maxwell and the last wicket added 29, Maxwell and Crisp both hitting sixes before Cuffe stumped the latter off Ingram.

Rain washed out the second day's play.
