1947 proved to be a much busier year with eight matches in all being played.

Of the original team picked for the match against Scotland in Cork, GM Crothers cried off and was replaced by RW Lyons, for what proved to be his only Irish cap.

Ireland were lucky to draw this game which was much interfered with by rain. Play only began after lunch on the first day and Scotland played defensively on a dead pitch - an error because the pitch later began to take spin and the lower order batsmen fought desperately for runs. Aitchison and Crerar slowly put on 78 runs for the first wicket, but the team were all out for 140. Aitchison, after a slow start, batted well, straight driving Boucher with good timing. Crerar made 34 in stilted style. Boucher proved destructive taking 6-69. Ingram gave admirable support, at one time bowling 24 overs for 20 runs. Ireland were 52-2 at the close. Pollock made 20 in free style.

Monday was completely washed out by thunderstorms. On Tuesday the pitch was treacherous. The sun dried the surface but the ball skidded a good deal. Ireland's remaining eight wickets brought only 51 runs. Youngson took 6-19 by fine bowling. By a strange coincidence Aitchison and Crerar again put on 78 for the first wicket in Scotland's second innings, and batting steadily Scotland made 181-9 declared. Hool's 5-73 was notable and Ingram's accuracy was a great help. Ireland had 150 minutes to get 219 runs. Waldron was out first ball and in half an hour four wickets were down for 18 runs. With only three wickets left to fall there were still 45 minutes left. However, Lambert and Hill, by steady batting, saved the game
