Ireland International Matches
Ireland beat South Africa by 6 wickets
1 Day, Ormeau, 14 July 1947
Scorecard
Derek Scott

As the previous two-day fixture had been concluded in one day, the South Africans agreed to play a further match of one-day duration. The visitors, batting first, were all out just after lunch for 114. This was due to magnificent bowling by Boucher who was on the top of his form as his figures show- 18.5-6-37-7. Mitchell and Dyer scored 40 for the first wicket but thereafter Boucher dominated and a procession ensued.

Ireland began badly in reply, Tuckett taking the first four wickets while only 36 runs were scored. Then a partnership of 83 between the Irish captain, Shearer and Barnes gave victory to the home team. Both batted extremely well, particularly Barnes who went on to complete an enterprising 50. Batting on after the victory the home team were all out for 202 - every Springbok except the wicket-keeper having a bowl. It should be noted that Athol Rowan did not play in this match
