Ireland International Matches
Ireland drew with Yorkshire
2 Day, Ormeau, 16 June 1948
Scorecard
Derek Scott

For the entire season of 1948 Donald Shearer was not available for the Irish team. For this first match Graham Crothers took over as captain for what proved to be in fact his final match for Ireland. In all he had played 19 times since 1931. For this match also Stuart Pollock was not available. From the selected team Barnes and Hool cried off and were replaced by new caps Caprani and Graham.

In a rain ruined game not even a result on first innings could be arrived at. On the first day Ireland were all out at tea for 153 and rain put a stop to any further play for the day. 89 of these runs came in a second wicket partnership between Mahony and Ingram after the first wicket (Jacobson) had fallen with no runs on the board. Ingram scored briskly yet safely and included six fours in his 53. A collapse followed the stand. Quinn was stumped and Hill, Curley, Caprani and Flood were out to indifferent strokes. As 121 Mahony was bowled by a beauty from Coxon after a splendid defensive innings. Boucher and Graham added 21 precious runs and the side were all out for 153.

On the following day rain prevented play until after lunch and curtailed the playing time to 2½ hours, during which Yorkshire made 141-3 - Halliday batting well for his 77 not out.
