This match brought another big Irish defeat but it came about the other way round. Ireland won the toss, batted and made only 164 after being 56 for one. Once again Richardson and Bean saw Ireland off, their opening stand being 132 in 147 balls. MCC's Captain, P Bedford, left himself out in favour of A Duncan from the Lord's ground staff. Robinson took over as Captain. Ireland brought in Conor Armstrong from North County C.C. a 20 year old all-rounder for his first cap, He replaced Molins who was not available (work).

The day was just as warm and sunny as the day before and the same pitch was used. It began to take a little spin. Ireland had four spin bowlers but MCC hit off the runs in 31.4 overs at a rate of over five per over.

MCC promoted Bowett to open the bowling with Prince. They each bowled six overs and were not recalled later. The Irish again lost an early wicket but at least, this time, it was only one. Curry (2), at seven, clipped Prince off his toes straight to mid-on, Davy joined Joyce who was scoring freely. When the opening bowlers were replaced after 12 overs the score was 45. On came Duncan at medium pace and his first over cost 11. De Bruyn replaced Bowett and his fifth ball bounced a little. Joyce pushed it in the air back to the bowler. 56-2-29. Andy Patterson was promoted to number four and faced almost all the bowling until Davy was run out in almost comical fashion. He hit De Bruyn to deep square leg, took a single and came back for two only to find Patterson still in his ground. Davy almost got back to his end before being run out by the bowler. 60-3-19.

At 69 Patterson got a leading edge trying to drive to mid-wicket and was caught at mid-off. 69-4-3. McCallan and White were now together. White got to 12 and looked in good form. Then he pulled at a short ball which kept a little low and he was lbw giving Duncan a second wicket in his ninth over. 85-5-12. The youthful Conor Armstrong came in for his debut in a crisis. He started quite well, hit a four, and put on 27 with McCallan. Meanwhile leg spinner Grant, despite his expensive bowling the previous day, had appeared for the 26th over. However it was off spinner Jeh who took three of the last five wickets. 100 was up in the 33rd over. In the 37th Armstrong slashed at Jeh with no foot movement and was caught at the wicket. 112-6-10.

Mooney was next and he too played well for his 19. 20 were added with McCallan. The latter hit his fourth four of the innings and was lbw next ball pushing half forward. His 41 was the highest score. 132-7-41. Grant finished his 10 overs giving away only 34 and De Bruyn replaced him. In five overs Mooney and Mark Patterson put on 29 and brought 150 up. Then, in 13 balls, the last three wickets fell. Mark Patterson was bowled, head up, by De Bruyn; Eagleson was bowled by De Bruyn's off break and Mooney was lbw to Jeh. It was a poor batting display with seven batsmen getting into double figures but only two getting beyond 20.

Most of the MCC bowlers had good figures, the best being De Bruyn (three for 18) and Jeh (three for 24) who both bowled eight overs.

Bean, who made 72 yesterday, was promoted to open with Richardson. To test the spin qualities of the pitch White opened the bowling with Eagleson. The latter bowled three overs for 14 but White came off after two overs for 13. Mooney and Dwyer were the next pair. Mooney went for 27 in four overs. Dwyer was given five overs which he bowled for 14. After these 14 overs MCC were 70! Bowlers were being tried in pairs, the next being Mark Patterson (15 in three overs) and Curry (20 in three overs). However Curry saw a chance missed in his second over. At 88 Bean (30) lofted a running catch to Armstrong at long-on which was put down and went for a boundary. Meanwhile Richardson went to his 50 in the 16th over. He had got up to 77 and the score to 132 when the only wicket of the innings went down. McCallan made a belated appearance at the bowling crease and in his third over Richardson came down the pitch, missed, and was both caught and stumped. This was the 25th over and Richardson had faced 76 balls with 10 fours.

Robinson came in and quickly finished the match, 36 runs coming in seven overs, Robinson hit Dwyer for three successive fours and hit five in all in his 22. Bean was 60 not out off 88 balls.

The end came in the 32nd over. Apart from one lapse Ireland fielded well but the bowlers gave up 88 runs in boundaries, more than half the required target.
