Ireland International Matches
Ireland beat I Zingari by 5 wickets
1 Day, Vice Regal, 23 July 1892
Scorecard
Derek Scott

This was a return match played on the scheduled second day of the original game which had concluded in one day. There was a good attendance and beautiful weather but little interest attached to the game. Ireland fielded the same team as for the original match but on the IZ side Lord Dartmouth replaced Lord George Scott. The IZ victory in a small way compensated for the previous crushing defeat. Ireland won the toss but shaped indifferently. Except for a good 20 from Johnson and 14 from Meldon none of the early batsmen did any good against Turner. 7 were out for 47. A well hit 27 from Kilkelly improved matters but the innings concluded for 99. Turner bowled unchanged and took 7 for 53 in 27 overs.

Penny and Johnson began the bowling and soon 4 wickets were down for 12 - all clean bowled 2 by each bowler. Vernon joined Hughes-Onslow and the score was taken to 39 when Hughes-Onslow was caught and bowled by Johnson fro a sound 23. Turner joined Vernon and together they won the match. Penny was perhaps injudiciously taken off at 60. Bud Hamilton came on and Vernon hit every ball of the 5-ball over for 4 - 20 in the over. When Vernon was caught off Meldon he had made 41 and the game had been won. Turner made 28. Pease, helped by the tail, made a quick 42. The total eventually rose to 169.
