Ireland's women beat Dutch twice in a day

The Orange Lionesses could draw some comfort from the fact that the second match was a little closer, although their bowlers were still unable to put the Irish batsmen under any real pressure.

Joyce elected to bat first this time, and Shillington and Richardson gave them a great start with a run-a-ball opening stand of 51. Lanser eventually removed Richardson, and when Shillington, on 33, fell to Esther de Lange in the next over, the momentum was very briefly with the Netherlands.

Then Cecilia Joyce and Garth took over, adding another 51, and the Irish finished on 115 for three.

The Dutch batters found scoring at nearly six an over too daunting a task, however, and although Lanser produced another 22, made from 18 balls, the required scoring rate steadily mounted.

They reached 74 for three, but then Elena Tice's leg spin proved a decisive factor, as she took three for 12 in the space of three overs, and the Netherlands ended up 13 runs short on 102 for seven. Wattenberg was the top-scorer with 25.
